These investigations are harsh, but they serve a purpose: it is by these types of investigations that naval standard procedures are determined or refined. For example, the throttle control was deferred to the chief engineer. Maybe the outset of this investigation will conclude that it is unsafe to disengage throttle control under certain sea conditions with INS engaged... I doubt anyone was lashed for this situation, no matter how stern the questioning.

I have to laugh at this investigation board, the only guys there that have any idea what they are talking about is the guys being aggressively questioned by the NTSB which comes off as a farce in this case.

Very easy for these investigators to sit and judge whether or not it was the officer's fault, but having not been in the position themselve I think it is very wrong they should attack the crew in such a way.NTSB always looks to blame a person other than a mechanical fault anyway, its a load of rubbish! The Officer acted on the information he had, and the fact the vessel was near max speed did not help. These accidents always happen for a series of reason, there is rarely 1 person to blame!
