If you listen to what hollow ichigo says he claims that ichigo's bankai compresses his spirit power to such a degree that it actually causes his bones to be crushed... i think that while he CAN reach those amazing speeds doing so causes his spirit energy to compress to much and injures him. In later episodes he doesnt compress it as much meaning no risk to using it but, he can't reach those levels of speeds. Just a passing thought.
